Christ Prep Second at Cair Paravel

The Christ Prep Patriots made another trip to the Topeka, Kansas area Friday, May 1, and came away with another second place finish. Competing in the Cair Paravel Invitational, CPA shot a season low team score 332 on the 6,000 yard Lake Shawnee Golf Club layout. The team score would have been even lower had newcomer Rees Conder's 81 counted toward the team score. Conder was placed in the event by Coach Finley as an individual and consequently his score was not allowed to be used in calculating the team's mark.

The Patriots were eleven strokes back of Cornerstone of Topeka, who has beaten the Patriots in every head-to-head match up this season. The Saints' 321 mark was an outstanding effort on the breezy Friday tournament.

Individually, the Patriots came away with three top ten medals. Garrett Clark once again excelled for the Patriots by shooting a six-over-par 76. The mark was good enough for second place, two strokes behind Cornerstone's Josiah Packard who carded a 74. Christ Prep's Clark Shaffstall delivered an 80 which was followed by Conder's 81. The two brought home the 5th and 6th Place medals, respectively.

The rest of the Patriots carded noteworthy scores, although they were out of the medals. Both Judah Brown and Michael Gimotty shot 88s for the CPA squad. These were outstanding scores for both players. Phoebe Finley followed with a 90 and Daniel Moneymaker shot a 95. Even Nicholas Gimotty fared well, shooting a 127 despite being the youngest player in the tournament.

The Patriots finish their season later this week in Springfield, Missouri as they compete in the National Christian Homeschool Championships at Rivercut G.C.

Patriots Second at Firekeeper

The Christ Prep Patriot golf team shot a combined 360 at Firekeeper Golf Course in Mayetta, Kansas Tuesday which landed the team in second place in the KCAA Championships.

Although the squad fell short of winner Cornerstone Family Schools (Topeka) by 16 strokes, the Patriots were the only other team to break the 400 mark as a unit, a noteworthy effort on the 6,000 yard Firekeeper layout.

Several Patriots brought home top ten medals. Garrett Clark and Clark Shaffstall, both CPA frosh, carded 84s which tied them for third place. Sophomore Daniel Moneymaker broke through to the top ten with a score of 90 which tied him for seventh place. Although out of the medals, Judah Brown and Phoebe Finley tied for 13th place with a pair of 96s.

The Patriots return to action to this afternoon in Lawrence as they contest a match play event against Cornerstone. Friday the team is back in Topeka for their last local meet--the Cair Paravel Invitational at Lake Shawnee G.C.

Patriots Compete at Hayden & Osawatomie

The Christ Prep Patriot golf team competed in two large invitationals last week and experienced mixed results.

Monday the squad traveled to Meriden, Kansas to compete in the Hayden Invitational. Overall the Patriots struggled at the event, shooting a combined score of 392 which placed them in the bottom third of the 10 team field. Piper won the team championship, shooting a combined 337.

Tuesday the team traveled to Osawatomie to compete in the Osawatomie Invitational. The Patriots shot a team score of 348 there, which was good enough for 8th Place in the 18  team field. Iola won the team championship with a 325.

Christ Prep's Garrett Clark snagged the team's only individual medals in the two events. His 82 at Hayden landed him the 2nd Place medal while the 77 he carded at Osawatomie placed him in 4th.

The Patriots struggled individually at Hayden, but delivered a couple of notable scores Tuesday at Osawatomie. Judah Brown delivered a personal best 87 while Clark Shaffstall carded an 89.

The Patriots resume action Tuesday when they compete at the KCAA State tournament at Firekeeper Golf Course in Mayetta, Kansas.

Patriots 7th of 17 Teams in Tough Blue Springs South Field

The Christ Prep Patriots delivered a solid 7th Place team finish today against some tough large class competition at the Blue Springs South "Jaguar Invitational" held at Lakewood Oaks Golf Club in Lee's Summit.

The Patriots' 359 mark was relatively good given the tight Lakewood layout which was made longer than its 6,300 yards by an abundance of casual water remaining from overnight rains. CPA's 359 was 25 strokes behind winner and host Blue Springs South. The Jaguars barely edged out Blue Springs which totaled a 325.

Following is the list of scores and places for all competing schools:
Place School Score
1 Blue Springs South 324
2 Blue Springs 325
3 Rockhurst 326
4 Staley 338
5 Kearney 345
6 Lee's Summit West 354
7 Christ Prep 359
8 Butler 374
9 Liberty 380
10 Blue Springs South B 382
11 Lee's Summit North 385
12 Lee's Summit 399
13 Liberty North 405
14 Summit Christian 408
15 O'Hara 419
16 Fort Osage 450
17 William Chrisman 495
Individually, the Patriots only had one player who received a top ten medal. Freshman Garrett Clark once again delivered CPA's low round of the day, a 12-over-par 83 which was good enough for an 8th Place tie.

Clark Shaffstall was close behind (Garrett) Clark with an 86. The Patriots's other round of under 100 came from senior Phoebe Finley who shot a 90. Finley was the only girl in the tournament and her 90 was in the top third of all scorers.

The Patriots will spend the remainder of the week practicing and will return to action next week as they travel to a couple of Kansas Invitationals. Monday, April 20, the squad heads to the Hayden Inv. in Topeka while Tuesday (4/21) they compete at the Osawatomie Inv. in Osawatomie

Patriots Ride Personal Bests to 2nd at Hesston

Riding a flurry of personal bests, the Christ Prep Patriot golf team placed second yesterday at the Wichita Warrior Invitational in Hesston, Kansas.

The Patriots combined for a team score of 339 as they negotiated the 6,118 yard Hesston Golf Park's white tees. That mark represented CPA's best team total so far during this young 2015 season as they bettered their previous season low by more than 20 strokes.

Although Christ Prep improved significantly over their first two meets, unfortunately for them so did Cornerstone of Topeka. The Saints fired an all time program low of 322, providing them a 17 point cushion over Christ Prep. Sunrise Christian Academy of Wichita was third with a 392.

Individually the Patriots received three of the top ten medals. Garrett Clark shot a ten-over-par 81, which placed him in a tie for fourth place. Rees Conder's 84 was good enough for 7th Place, while Phoebe Finley's 85 placed her in a tie for 8th. Josiah Packard of Cornerstone led all golfers with a four-over 75.

Conder's and Finley's scores represented personal bests for each player (Finley's from the men's tees). Also delivering personal bests were the Patriots other three contestants. On any other day in many other tournaments Judah Brown's 89, Daniel Moneymaker's 90, and Michael Gimotty's 94 would have secured them a medal. Unfortunately for them those marks were out of the medals yesterday, but they represented solid performances and the fruit of much hard work.

Christ Prep will have little time to rest as the team resumes action Monday, April 13 at the Blue Springs South "Jaguar" Invitational at Lakewood Oaks Golf Club in Lee's Summit.

Patriots Strong at Grain Valley

The Christ Prep Patriots traveled to Adam's Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs, Mo. Monday as the squad participated in the Grain Valley Invitational. The CPA golfers had a workmanlike outing amidst blustery conditions and placed 5th among the 11 teams in the field. The Patriots' score of 367, while respectable, was well behind first place Platte County, which carded a 334.

Two Patriot freshmen received individual awards. Garrett Clark shot a five-over-par 77, which was good enough for a tie for 2nd Place, while CPA's Clark Shaffstall's 86 earned him a tie for the 10th. These rounds followed solid outings for the pair during last week's first two tournaments.

Garrett Clark's foursome included Brett Windsor from Boonville, who shot an outstanding 67 (-5) earning him overall medalist honors. Windsor, Clark, and  Marshall's Cole Perkins-who had the other 77-were the only contestants who shot less than 80 from Adam's Pointe's 6,400 yard blue tees.

Christ Prep travels to Hesston, Kansas Friday to participate in the Wichita Defenders Invitational.

Patriots Snag Archie, Second at Cornerstone

The Christ Prep Patriot golf team began its 2015 campaign with a couple of strong showings this past week, taking advantage of some unseasonably mild weather conditions.

Tuesday, the CPA squad began its season at the Cornerstone Invitational at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Topeka. Although the Patriots placed second to the host Cornerstone in the team competition, several solid rounds were delivered by CPA.

Freshman Garrett Clark led the Patriots with an 84, which was good enough for 5th Place in the individual competition. Senior Phoebe Finley's 91 was second for the Patriots, and was good enough for a 10th Place medal.

Christ Prep showed well during the event, especially given that four of its players were making their high school debuts. Besides the scores delivered by Clark and Finley, three players were also in the low-to-mid nineties for the Patriots. Freshman Clark Shaffstall fired a  93 for CPA, while Junior Judah Brown and newcomer Rees Conder delivered 94s for the Christ Prep squad.

CPA's total team score of 362, while well behind Cornerstone's winning mark of 324, provided a comfortable cushion in front of 3rd Place Cair Paravel of Topeka, which tallied a 425. The Wichita Warriors, Wichita Defenders, and Flint Hills Christian (Manhattan) were all above 500 and were in 4th-6th Places, respectively.

Cornerstone dominated the individual medals awarded at the competition, receiving 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, and 9th. Cornerstone senior Josiah Packard was overall medalist, carding a 3-over-par 73 on the 5,900 Cypress Ridge layout. Packard's teammate Noah Frederick shot an 81 which gave him sole possession of second place.

Following the Cornerstone event on Tuesday, Christ Prep traveled to Archie, Mo. Thursday to compete in a nine hole "Tri" match with the Archie Whirlwinds and Butler Bears.

CPA delivered a solid team performance and carded an excellent 161 on the Blackberry Trails layout. Garrett Clark once again led the Patriots, providing a one-over-par 36. Clark's effort earned him overall medalist honors and established him as the only competitor shooting below 40 for the day.

Christ Prep's 161 bettered 2nd Place Butler by 20 strokes. The Bears delivered a 181 while host Archie was close behind, rounding out the team scores with a 3rd Place 187.

Besides Clark's excellent 36, the Patriots carded the 2nd and 3rd best scores as well. Clark Shaffstall and sophomore Daniel Moneymaker each shot five-over 40 on the tight Blackberry Trails track. Judah Brown also delivered a solid 45 for CPA.

The Patriots have little time to rest on their laurels, as they resume action Monday at the Grain Valley Eagle Invitational at Adam's Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs, Mo.
