Finley’s 75, Massing’s Double Eagle Pace Patriots

It was well worth the wait. Although rain, snow, and wind chills last Thursday forced postponement of the CPA Invitational, the tournament was rescheduled for yesterday and the conditions could hardly have been better at Ironhorse Golf Club in Leawood, Kans. Christ Prep, although shorthanded, capitalized and delivered its third consecutive victory in the event by posting a combined score of 340. Kansas City Christian was second with a 371 while Sunrise of Wichita and Blue Ridge Christian of Kansas City followed up with 403 and 457, respectively.

The day was highlighted by personal bests and career shots. Timothy Finley was first place medalist, shooting a personal best 3-over 75.  Especially noteworthy was sophomore Sawyer Massing’s double eagle on the par 5 14th hole. Massing holed out a six iron from about 175 yards. He then followed up with a birdie on 15, concluding a two hole stretch at 4-under-par. Sawyer finished the day at 5-over 77—also a personal best—which  was good enough for second place. And to boot for Sawyer—his double eagle got him some ink in the Kansas City Star.

Christ Prep was missing its normal numbers 3 and 5—Garrett Routh and Jacob Bishoff, but other Patriots stood in the gap and contributed to the team’s efforts. Nolan Becerra was fourth place with an 85. Regan Hurley added a 103 (tied for 10th Place) while Phoebe Finley shot a 104. Sierra Massing was forced to withdraw because of a knee injury.  Justin McGee also competed for the Patriots.

Christ Prep travels to Springfield, Mo. today in preparation for the National Christian Homeschool Championships to be held tomorrow and Friday at Rivercut Golf Course. Stay tuned for progress reports from that event.
